A Love Letter to Yourself

With Valentine’s day around the corner, date nights planned, and kids school celebration preparations on the mind, it's easy to put yourself aside; but, lets not forget about your most important Valentine: yourself. Take time this month to feel the love that you have for yourself! Since we don’t often celebrate ourselves we’ll list out some ways to make sure you are taking time to care and love yourself this month.

With partners and children that depend on us, it’s easy to feel guilty for taking time for yourself or prioritizing yourself, but those who care for you are the exact reason you should prioritize taking care of yourself. When you take good care of yourself you are less tired and better able to take care of others. Taking care of yourself rewards you and the people around you, so how can this be accomplished? By taking care of yourself inside and out.

By taking care of your body internally, you’ll be better nourished, in a better mental state, and setting a great example for everyone around you. A great way to start is by looking at your consumption and making realistic and lasting changes. Getting at least 2 liters of water a day, your daily recommended vegetable and fruit intake, and watching your consumption of processed foods is an approachable start that is sustainable. While focusing on your nutrition, it’s also important to not neglect your mind.

By improving your mental state and focusing on mental health you can improve your communication, emotional intelligence, and improve your mood. There are so many factors that can improve your mental state and some of it can be addressed by improving your diet and getting adequate exercise and rest, but the remainder can be addressed by meditation, journaling, and practicing mindfulness. If this seems overwhelming then try out any of our guided meditation videos available on OnDemand. Use meditation as a way to mentally escape and find clarity, journal every day to track how you feel and focus on gratitude which can lead to a more positive mental state. As a thank you to all members, clients, and supporters we're giving a gift of self-care during this love-filled month. As previously mentioned exercise can dramatically improve your mental and physical health. Taking just three days a week to take a class or go to the gym can improve your mood and promote weight-loss. Struggling to find the time or a fitness schedule that works for you? Here is a sample workout schedule that can help you find the time and schedule that works for you!

While taking the time to prioritize yourself can seem daunting, it makes a big difference in both your life and those around you. Use this month to really take the time to love yourself and prioritize yourself, you’ll notice positive changes within your body and mental health and maybe you can even extend this for a year-round change.
